Hapazome

Explore the art of Hapazome, the Japanese technique of pounding flowers into fabric! This is a 1-hour hands-on workshop including how to prepare cotton fiber for dyeing with natural dye stuffs, how to create a floral composition, and how to successfully smash plants into fiber. You will leave with a beautiful one-of-a-kind cotton scarf. If you have one, please bring a hammer.

This workshop does get loud. Please bring noise-canceling headphones if you have sensitive ears.

Dye the Rainbow Art Camp

Discover the art of dyeing clothing and fabrics using natural ingredients you can find in your own home and yard. Learn how to use onion skins, turmeric, carrot tops, beans, avocadoes, flowers, and more to color cotton fabric with all the colors of the rainbow. Students will learn different techniques including solar dyeing, shibori and bundle dyeing to create a rainbow book of fabrics and cotton camp t-shirt.

This class is one week, runs Monday-Friday, and lasts 1.5 hours with a snack break outside, weather permitting. Please remember a water bottle, small snack, and wear clothes that can get messy. Ages 10+

Natural Dyeing 101

Have you ever wanted to try natural dyeing but don’t know where to begin? This is the class for you! You will learn all the basics including how to source materials, how to extract colors, what mordants are, and how to use them to fix natural dyes to fabric. We will make a beautiful book of swatches documenting a range of fibers, dyes, mordants, and modifiers. Please bring any natural fibers (cotton, silk, linen, wool) you would like to experiment with to the first day of class!

A Passion for Fashion Art Camp

If you have a passion for fashion, come learn to communicate your vision through drawing!

Students will master the basics of fashion design using illustration techniques, experimenting with various artistic mediums, and learning to execute quick sketches in the “croqui" style. Gain insights into body proportions, fabric flow and movement, model poses, and how to effectively translate those ideas into your designs.

Our summer art camp, "Fashion Week," will culminate with students creating a collection of 3-5 well-illustrated pieces that showcase their unique ideas and creativity.

This class is one week, runs Monday-Friday, and lasts 2.5 hours with a snack break outside. Ages 10+

Shibori Fabric Dyeing

Explore the art of shibori, the Japanese technique of manipulating fabric before dyeing. In this 3 hour hands-on workshop, we will tend to a natural indigo vat and learn different techniques of folding and binding fabric to create beautiful surface patterns. You may bring an item or textile to dye, and will also leave with several swatches. Item must be t-shirt size or smaller, white, and made of a natural fiber (cotton, linen, silk).
